Workshops for Youth Sports Organizations and Coaches

Coaching is challenging.  How do you connect with so many different personalities and skill levels, develop effective and enjoyable practice plans, create positive relationships with parents, properly support athletes in their individual goals, and at the same time build a team culture that values effort, cooperation, and commitment among all members?  When I walked into my first coaching job after graduating college I thought I knew it all but I quickly came to realize I knew nothing.  After struggling my first year as a head coach, I stepped back and learned.  I soaked in all I could because I realized I was a mediocre coach, at best, regardless of how successful an athlete I was.  I got the training I needed....from other (more successful) coaches, from the experience of coaching as many different teams of various ages and skill levels as I could, from instructing camps, clinics, and private lessons, and from the Positive Coaching Alliance.  Over the following 15 years I implemented everything I was learning and consistently created champions out of players who hardly believed in themselves.  In fact, one of my favorite parts of coaching is seeing the confidence grow in the athletes I coach.  A close runner up is helping coaches do the same for their athletes. But how?  Well, coaching takes effort and desire, just like you are asking from your athletes!  How can you bring your best game so your athletes can bring theirs?

In my 3 hour workshops, coaches, parents, and youth sports organization members will learn:

  • how to communicate and build trust with your athletes.

  • the tools of connection so even the least coachable athlete on your team opens up and listens to all you have to say.

  • how to develop a team culture, alongside your athletes, that expects and rewards hustle, camaraderie, and sportsmanship.

  • how to set realistic goals with your team depending on age and skill level.

  • how to properly provide feedback to your athletes to help them reach their individual potential.

  • how to make each practice challenging, engaging, and fun.

  • how to incorporate rest and recovery into your seasons.

  • how to develop parents with no experience into effective assistant coaches.

  • how to include parents, making them your allies who help your team reach its goals.

There is nothing better than to hear your athletes tell you that they LOVE coming to each practice, watching them step into their potential, and truly enjoy participating in their sport.  I'm ready to help you get there!

Workshops can be presented on one day however some organizations prefer different subjects be presented on different days.  I work with each organization to tailor workshops to their specific needs. Costs vary between $500-$750 per workshop depending subjects presented and number of coaches in organization.
